Barack Obama was visibly angry when he was first informed he would not be permitted to visit wounded American troops in Landstuhl, Germany as scheduled. The Pentagon told Obama’s campaign staff that only Senate staff could accompany him. This was moments after the Senate staff, which had been with Obama, Reed and Hagel for the Mideast portion of the trip hopped on their planes and headed home.
George Bush and John McCain would rather deny injured troops the opportunity to get a simple handshake or pat on the back from the next President of the United States just to try and score some cheap political points. This is how they support the troops.
When the primaries first began, Obama only wore a flag lapel pin on those occasions where he was speaking to, or on behalf, of the troops. Somehow, FOX NEWS turned that into proof that Obama was unpatriotic. Obama never brings cameras with him when he visits injured troops – he says it’s not appropriate to exploit them for political gamesmanship.
So, America’s wounded heroes in Landstuhl remain captives of the republican smear machine. George Bush, John McCain; I hope you’re proud of yourselves…

I found this attack patently obvious and pathetic. There is no reason Obama, who has met with troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq would “avoid” doing so in Germany. It is so obvious a ploy by the Administration to give this “issue” to McCain to exploit. The dirty bastards never quit do they?

I agree … the administration took a look at pictures of Obama in Iraq — with the troops — saw that they liked him, and shut him down as far as access goes (unless as a Senator). That’s pretty poor gamesmanship.

If Obama makes any sort of inroads whatsoever with people who are “pro-military,” it’s all over for McCain. No wonder they want to do anything they can to keep that from happening. And of course they have no compunction about lying; they never have before.

This has been the M.O. for this administration, not just during election cycles but for the full 2 terms they have been in power. McCain released an ad called Troops smearing Obama with these lies, showing a clip of him shooting hoops (with the troops) while saying he was snubbing the troops.
Disgraceful.

Thanks, guys.
I hope the American people are all as intelligent as you are and can see through the smear.

Have we gotten the straight story? I have heard different accounts of why he could not or would not go.
One account was that he could have gone but would not comply with the conidtion that he leave his campaign staff behind. In other words, the military doesn’t want to be used as a political campaign backdrop.

Campaign staff?
We’re talking about ONE PERSON!
See, this is what I’m talking about. You have to know you’re dead-wrong on this.

Actually I don’t. I have read too many different explanations, and I am talking about reputable news agencies, to know what actually happened.
