Here We Go Again

“Jesus would not be scared of the I.R.S.” So say a bunch of Christian lawyers who have formed the Alliance Defense Fund, based in Scottsdale, Az. The group organized Pulpit Freedom Sunday. What the hell is that? Well, participating pastors will intentionally jeopardize their tax-exempt status and deliver sermons to endorse candidates based on scripture. This does not bode particularly well for Barack Obama, since it was discovered in 1979 that God is a republican.

It’s true. In 1979, Paul Weyrich, Terry Dolan, Richard Viguerie and Howard Phillips enlisted Jerry Falwell to be their front-man in the newly minted political action committee they named The Moral Majority. It was created for one reason – to attack President Jimmy Carter for his decision to use the power of the I.R.S. to end segregation in private schools. Carter’s deal was that the laws were already on the books; segregation was illegal, so Bible Colleges and the like that refused to allow minorities to attend didn’t deserve tax-exempt status, since they were, in essence, breaking federal law. The rest is history.

Jesus spoke very little about John McCain when He walked this earth. In fact, when it comes to this particular issue, Christ only offered up one soundbite: “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”…

It is sad what Christianity has come to in this country. I am a Christian Pastor, but I reject the group of pastors that stood on their pulpits and endorsed McCain. I don’t see where the scripture would support him. I wonder what texts the preachers used to support their views. Well you know how it goes. A preacher can make the scriptures say anything they want.

I like your blog Kurt.

Thank you David. I agree with your statement that preachers can make the scriptures say whatever they want. Truth is in the eye of the beholder…

I picked this story up too today, and added it for Friday. This is but another reason to make sure Obama is elected. We don’t need another conservative nutcase on the bench.

On a side note, Kurt, I noticed the “wordpress Political ” badge you have. I tried to follow the directions but I’m not able to understand what I am supposed to do to get it on my blog. would you be willing to lead me through the steps. I get the badge code and putting it on my sidebar, but I don’t get the making a page for a pingback or whatever?

Let me know, or email me at troyspeyton (at) att.net.

Are you settled back here again? I’ll revise my blogroll next week if so?

How very clever of Jimmy Carter!! He was the President that put solar panels on the White House. The guy was way ahead of his times.

He was a great statesman, unfortunately, he was a terrible campaigner.

Agreed Kurt. Agreed.

But look where 30 years of Reagonomics has got us? We are bankrupt!! So are a lot of other foreign banks. I’m glad the bail out was not passed. There should be no reward for banks that leveraged themselves to the degrees that some of these banks did. Yes the immediate future will be difficult, however the quicker the shake out occurs, the quicker we will be able to assess and re-build our position.

Throwing $700 Billion at $1,000 Trillion worth of debt (according to the International Bank of Settlements) is like spitting at a Tsunami. Just not very helpful.

The $700 Billion would be much better as a big tax incentive or job creation in the greening of America. That would be one way to immediately feel relief in some high energy prices.

30 years ago the US was one of the leaders in Solar Technology, now we are trailing Germany, Japan and China in an industry where we initially had the edge. Time to get back on track. One of the best things about greening the country is that those are jobs that cannot be outsourced as the nature of renewable energy starts on such a local level. Thus it would be a sustainable and renewable economy.

Just my 2 cents on what that $700 billion could do!

America’s number one priority is energy independence. Not just freedom from foreign oil, but fossil fuels altogether. There is no greater challenge. Bad sweaters aside, Jimmy Carter was right 30 years ago, and Barack Obama is right today.
